MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY
Prof Bowley has defined measures of central tendency as “Measures of central tendency (averages) are statistical constants which enable us to comprehend in a single effort the significance of the whole.”
We have just stated the definition of measures of central tendency as it was stated by Prof Bowley, now let us elaborate this definition for the better understanding:
- Central Tendency, is also the middle of a distribution, hence it is also known as the measure of location.
- Tabulation of a data offers a data to be systematically provided and at the same time it facilitates a better understanding of the data.
- In any data, it has been observed that the values of a variable tend to cluster around a central value of the distribution.
- This tendency of a distribution is known as the central tendency and the measures that are devised to consider this distribution are known as measures of central tendency.
